Question When does 1st time parent paranoia end?

I have always been a bit cautious in life but since giving birth to DS I am so worried about EVERYTHING!

Once we brought him home I didn't want to go out too often or have frequent visitors for fear of exposing him to other people's germs. Then I only wanted to use natural products on him to avoid contact with harsh chemicals. Now that he is coming very close to crawling I am worried about how to best keep the floor surfaces clean, remove objects from within his reach that could cause him harm, instructing people to remove their shoes upon entering our home, etc. As summer nears I am already worried about mosquito bites, ticks, spiders. I don't want my fears to transfer to DS so I am writing this for advice.

This is so silly yet very real. Only once I became a mother did I ever think about all the "yuck" that gets on our clothes when we are out and about and how it must transfer to our chairs and couches when we come home and sit down.

DH teases by saying I am turning into "Monk" from the USA t.v. show.

I guess with a new baby I worry that things may not be clean or safe enough.

I know getting dirty is something that I cannot prevent and it is not my wish to keep DS from causing messes throughout the years, but right now I just feel weird for not being able to stop obsessing over such things.

It is very common to feel like that with the first one so you are not alone. You will chill out a bit as time moves on and if you have a second child you won't have the time to worry like this. However, one of the hardest things about being a parent is the constant and neverending worry. I guess its about getting things into perspective as much as possible so you can enjoy your little ones.

Never! It does get better though. After 3, I have had to let a few things go.

I did keep all of my kids in the house and away from people for the first month. It just isn't worth the risk IMO. My family and friends thought I was weird, but I don't care. My LOs stayed healthy and I am grateful.

Re: When does 1st time parent paranoia end?

well every mom is different but I do think it gets easier. my friends and my own mother always comment that I am laid back for a first time mom but I certainly have my first time mommy moments as well. My dd goes every where and to everywhere....she is very social and energetic so I couldn't stop this if I tried. I know you are doing your best to keep a clean and safe environment for your child but I would encourage you to work on being balanced about it....try not to let your worries keep them back from trying new things and having a full life. Let him learn new things without mom hovering too close, let him get dirty when finger painting and what not. It is great that you are looking for advice and wanting to grow as a mother and I wish you the best of luck!

it gets better over time. I remember washing and sanitizing everything, and now if something falls on the carpet or the couch I just rinse it off.
