Thumbs down Breastfeeding in the news (and NOT in a good way)

Have you ladies seen these two articles about breastfeeding on msnbc?

Is breastfeeding really best? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29718562/
and The case against breastfeeding http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29710422/

I hate seeing crap like that.

Okay, this coming from me a mom who DID FF who first, who is EBF her second..

When she says "Formula is WONDERFUL..." I would disagree. It is a means to end to get a child fed with the minimum amount of nutrition needed, but something loaded with corn starch, sugar, fillers and pesticides [if you don't buy organic] is not a WONDERFUL product for a baby.

I read the first page of the "case". It's a crock of ****! Really, this women really didn't do her "reseach". I'm not even gonna get started on it. I really feel bad for those Moms that read this and think Bfing isn't worth their time. Very sad.

That's my problem with it. How many women out there are thinking about breastfeeding, but not really dedicated to it and are gonna read something like this that makes it sound like it's a huge pain (which it can be but isn't usually) and not worth the effort (which it almost always is). Just ugh.

Re: Breastfeeding in the news (and NOT in a good way)

I think they are going the wrong way with this...
Breastfeeding can be a struggle at times, but women need MORE support. It seems like they are talking women out of breastfeeding. Like "Oh honey, it's okay, formula is just as good as breastmilk."
The best advice I got before I had my son was not to keep formula in the house, because it would be too tempting to use when I was tired or feeling like I wasn't going to make it in those early weeks. If I was getting a lot of advice like these women are giving, then it would have been harder for me to keep breastfeeding. I don't think formula is poison, but breastmilk is definitely better for the baby.

Well, if one believes infant feeding should be based on "controlled science", then there isn't much else to say...it's rather sad...as if the formula companies and their ads everywhere you look weren't enough to discourage women from breastfeeding....

Well I guess that will make the women who decide not to BF happy. I personally don't care, I love BFing my son, and will continue to do so. I think that it is too vast a subject to really know all the benefits of Bfing.

How unfortunate to have breastfeeding portrayed that way
