Lovin my dh right now! Nursing beyond Infancy

Some background. When Maia was born he thought I should wean her by 6 weeks, per his mothers ideas about being able to nurse and work ft, then he thought 9 months, around 6 months though he thought 12 months would be okay, at 12 months I negotiated for 18 months, she actually nursed until she was 2, but he doesn't know that!

When Sage turned one he made a comment about only 6 more months of the good stuff. I didn't respond because sometimes its just better that way. I was getting nervous as we got closer and closer to 18 months but was pleasently surprised when the night she turned 18 months he asked her to sign "milky" and she said "Mama" then signed "milky please" and then smacked her lips. He laughed and said "yep, you know who has the good stuff" So I knew things were good for awhile. I have been wanting to talk to him about it but was afraid it would turn into him wanting me to start weaning so I have been avoiding.

Tonight, out of the blue, he asked when I was going to wean Sage. I said I wasn't sure, maybe around 2. He said "okay, do you mean stop at 2 or start weaning at 2." I said start weaning since her birthday is right at the end of the school year and we would be home together all day and it would be a bad time to wean." He was totally fine with it! I am so relieved, I know I could just stand my ground, but I didn't want it to be a fight. I guess he has listened to enough of my spoutings about how good it is in so many ways, WHO recommendations, NIP outrage, etc. Maybe being on the news for the Victoria's Secret Nurse-In helped! He is also really good about NIP. He used to be really uncomfortable, but now he doesn't even bat an eye about me nursing Sage anywhere I need to.

My dh has no idea my ds nursed until he was almost two. How he has/had no clue is beyond me. He wasn't anti-nursing, but around here, you've done your job getting past three months.

Kuddos to your dh and kuddos to you for educating him!

That is so nice; if they only knew how if felt to nurse a toddler, they wouldn't care when you weaned. My husband was the same way as your husband and now DS is almost 26 months and still going strong!

Wow, that is me and my DH to a T. I have been thinking about going on and just not making it a thing in front of him, but I didn't know if it would work or not. Since I'm at home though and he works it would def. work I think. I'm glad things worked out for you. I'm dealing with the same thing as Kaytlynn is coming up on 16months. I just try to avoid it. She was sitting on the couch the other day and I asked her if she wanted some and she said no. He said laughing, so I guess Weaning has begun?? I was like UMm NO she just doesn't want it right now. Shew, I don't know what I'm gonna do.
