Re: 2% milk or whole milk?

I put dd #1 on whole milk at a year and she go really constapated. I swiched to 2 % and she did fine. My dr said that breast milk is still the best for toddlers so if she was still nursing a few times a day she would get more benifits from my breast milk then whole milk. I did not even switch my dd#2 to whole milk at a year I just went straight to 2% and she was still nursing 3 or 4 times a day.

Yah, whole milk is reccomended because the high fat content is needed to produce the fatty covering around the brain and spinal cord. I would say, if you are nursing, that is exactly what a toddler needs, not worries about percent there But if you wanna give cows milk, whole is best.

Re: 2% milk or whole milk?

weight gain is definitely not a problem with my porker Unfortunately I couldn't bf her after 2 weeks so she's been on Similac which IMO tastes nasty, so needless to say when she got a taste of milk she wouldn't let go of that cup! Thanks mamas, I will get some whole milk for her

Re: 2% milk or whole milk?

Yeah, I also heard whole milk until 2 years, then 2%. It's kind of a hassle to have two seperate containers of milk (we have a TINY fridge), but fats are essential to brain development (and not to my hips) so it's necessary.
