anyone ever heard of PUL starting to leak through?

Someone has asked me about a diaper cover (PUL) that they've used for 4-6 months that is starting to leak right through so that the whole thing is soaked. It didn't do this before, only recently started to.
Does this make any sense to you? I didn't know what to say because logically I don't see how that could even happen. Please help me figure this out!

Maybe the PUL needs to be resealed. Tell her to try putting the cover in the dryer on high. That should re-seal the PUL.

God bless,
Michelle

Ive heard of PUL cracking and then it would leak. This can happen from washing it on Hot or putting in the dryer too often on high heat. I have heard the dryer can re-seal it too. I know that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I've had a pocket (so I could see the inside PUL) where the PUL actually came off in spots. How? I have no idea! But the diaper was less than a year old.

If it's delaminated.. it could happen. I wouldn't think that it'd start happening after 4-6 months of use though?

We have 2 Thirsties covers that I bought when DD was 3 months old and they've been used quite a bit, but are still as waterproof as ever and she turned 20 months old yesterday.

Hmm...I have one I just got off FSOT that seems to leak in the front. Maybe I should try the dryer...

I have had that happen to one of my covers. I don't put anything will PUL in the dryer but once in a while to reseal it. I must have done something to mne to make it leak, but when DS has a really wet diaper and he is wearing that cover, the cover is wet on the outside to.

Thanks, this is helpful! I don't know her wash routine, I'll have to ask. So, dry on hot, check the inside to see if cracked or delaminated.
Anything else anyone can think of?
I've used my covers for years without trouble so its a mystery!

Re: anyone ever heard of PUL starting to leak through?

I had this happen to one of my covers (a lg. Thirsties) and tried the dryer trick, but it didn't work... with a little research on here and on the web I found out you can you a waterproofing camp spray (Camp Spray at Walmart) or something similar to re-waterproof the outside. Just make sure you do it outside, two coats, let dry completely, and wash, wash, wash before using. It worked for me!
