Hey mamas, I did a search for a similar thread but couldn't find one - hopefully I'm not dragging up old news.

I'm starting to suspect twins in this pregnancy. It's my second so I know I should expect to get bigger fast, but I've exploded in growth. My bellybutton has even popped and I'm not even 14 weeks!

I wonder if you could tell me what your early signs were when you had twins? I don't have my midwife appointment until next week, and won't know for sure till my ultrasound.

My suspicious symptoms are:

Extreme fatigue (though I do have an active toddler to chase)
Bad morning sickness from 6 weeks till 13.5 weeks (had none with DS)
Huge tummy (and I'm all tummy, though little weight gain)
Early movement (12 weeks I felt flutters)

What do you think? Am I crazy?

I knew I was pregnant with twins before it was confirmed by ultrasound, so I don't think you're crazy. What's your fundal height measuring?

Unfortunately I haven't been measured yet! At my last appointment I was only 10 weeks so there wasn't much to measure. I also haven't had any blood work done either as the pregnancy seemed pretty normal from the start.

try measuring your fundal height yourself....just get a cloth tape measure and start at the top of your pubic bone and go to the top of your fundus (you can find that by starting on the side of your belly feeling for the firmness of the uterus and then following that around to the middle of your belly).

Really the difference between my singleton and my twins was the severity of my symptoms. My morning sickness lasted until about 18 wks when I had none with my first. You really can't go by symptoms or how quickly you show. You certainly could suspect early on and you might be right, but the only way to know for sure is ultrasound or birth. Even fundal height and HCG levels aren't always accurate since women vary so widely. Good luck. I hope you get what you want.

Thanks mamas. I'll try to lay down today and measure my fundal height to get an idea. Then I'll have to google a comparison!

The twins were my first pregnancy, but no one would have convinced me I was having twins until the ultrasound. I felt great, I was not big at all, my HCG levels were low...Not to sound like a doubting Thomas, but I know a couple of mamas who thought that because their second pregnancy was so different. I would call your doc or midwife, and tell them what you think.

My hcG levels at 7 weeks were high, but the doc didn't tell me bc they were still within the (huge) normal range. I found out at 8 weeks via ultrasound (checking for dates and found 2 babies!). I am just 13 weeks now and my fundal height is what it would be for a 20 week singleton. I have been very tired (but I have a toddler and preschooler, so no surprise there) but little sickness. I actually had more nausea with my second dd.

You mamas are so great - thank you for responding!

I just wish there was a test you could do at home (like a HPT) that would tell you how many babies there are in there. Once I get an idea in my head, I drive myself crazy thinking about it. It's going to be a long wait until Thursday!
