Let's talk Prevacid !
Well, she does have reflux as I thought and I left with not only a script for Prevacid but a 30 day supply of samples she gave me! Awesome!
So she told me to give her 1/2 of a 15mg tab 30 min to an hour BEFORE her first feeding in the a.m. Just that one time each day. She warned me this was going to be hard because they wake up hungry but the tab needs to be taken on an empty stomach then no food for at least 30min. This is how you all give Prevacid to your LO's? Just curious. ETA: She had a complete meltdown in the waiting room! Holy cow I became the star of the show there for a while. I could not get her to settle down & she was working herself up big time. Luckily the nice receptionist let me back early so I could BF her and get her to calm down. Haha, we are making memories.....

Re: Let's talk Prevacid !
When my dd was on it I had to wait 20 minutes before her first feeding. What I would do is wake her up earlier than usual, give it to her in her sleep, wait, and then nurse her back to sleep. She was only on it for a little over a month, but we saw no change so we switched meds.

Re: Let's talk Prevacid !
Worked great for all of my reflux babies (one still takes it)..You don't need to wait the full 30 mins, just 20, as pp said. If you give it right when your LO wakes and then change dipe and distract, the time goes by ok............

Re: Let's talk Prevacid !
My younger daughter who is 3 months old is currently on Prevacid and my older daughter was on it from about 3 months to just over a year. I always just give it when my daughter wakes up and then feed her whenever she is hungry. If she happens to be hungry right after I give her the Prevacid, then so be it. I did this for my older daughter as well and it never seemed to negatively impact the effectiveness of the medication. It is a 24-hour medication so I wouldn't image that the timing of eating after administration of the medication would affect the absorption that much. In fact, none of the pediatricians in my daughters' group mentioned making my child wait to eat after giving the med.
I am of the belief that a child should be fed when hungry. I can't imagine trying to make my 3-month-old wait to eat in the morning. That would be the loooongest 30 minutes ever!

Re: Let's talk Prevacid !
That is what we did(she was on prevacid since days old in the NICU until well after 3), wake up, give it to her and then distract with diaper change, putting clothes on, playing, etc....we had to administer 2 times daily after a year (15 mg 2 times a day solutabs even after her Nissan Wrap) so this routine went on for awhile....she is now 3.5 and I weaned her off of it a few months ago (with her GI's consent to give it a try) to see how her stomach was going to handle it and so far so good, her next GI appt is in June.

Re: Let's talk Prevacid !
We just give it in the am, they never said any specific time or schedule. I give it at 8 am, through her tube, then her feeding stops shortly after and we start her up again 2-3 hours later.
