I am so upset..........

My two oldest DDs have been taking taekwondo for over a year now. I was just told that thier school is closing next week due to the economy being so bad. My kids will be able to continue classes privately thru August because I paid in advance. Both of the girls have come such a long way since joining. The younger one was terrified of doing anything in front of people and has now even competed in tournaments in front of hundreds of people. The older one was really shy and always hid behind her hair. She is now so confident in herself and even her grades went up. She even made the state champion list.

I'm so scared that now they will regress back to before. My oldest understands but I haven't told her sister yet. I don't know how to handle it.

Can you find another school or activity?
Transition is difficult, but it doesn't have to be traumatic. Have the little one make good-bye cards for her teacher(s) so that she has a sense of closure over the matter.
And I wouldn't worry about regressing. They've learned new skill sets that have replaced the old ones.

Find another school!!!!

Do you have any other TKD schools near you? If not, are they interested in trying another martial art?

The next closest school is an hour away. If the girls switch to a different style they will have to start over as white belts. My oldest is just four belts away from her black belt and her sister is five away. This was the only activity that either of them really took to.

If they like it so much though, maybe it would be worth starting over? Are there other styles of TKD available or none altogether? An hour is a bit far I think, but I would DEFINITELY consider something else! I'm also wondering if they would get through the belts quicker due to knowing the basics already.

That sucks...sorry. Is there anyway that they can keep doing the private lessons?

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

I was going to suggest this as well. I could see that if they had to close, the teachers might still need the extra money...

Re: I am so upset..........

Unless the teachers are moving away maybe they can do private lessons at a local gym or a group of students/ parents get together to help off set the cost of gym rental etc?

That really sucks. I would consider driving if it was only 1 day.

I also think it's worth asking the teachers to continue private lessons if possible.
