Need advice for a baby dresser

We need a new dresser for the baby. Thing is, I dont have much cash for one because we REALLY need to buy the car seat travel system 1st and foremost.

Would it be terrible if I used a set of Rubbermaid drawers for now? I have one that looks like this sorta. Same concept at least. It has 3 drawers. No handles like shown though.

My dd has a white wicker armoire and a small 3 drawer wicker dresser, so another option would be to give that set to the baby and then get dd a new dresser.

What would you do?

Re: Need advice for a baby dresser

Get the rubbermaid and if you feel really bad about it keep it in the closet.

I have one real dresser/changing table for DD that I keep only dipes in. Her clothes are in the plastic drawers in the closet and I just got a new set for the new babe. I think I have the sterlite brand from Target with 4 drawers...2 skinny ones for bibs and socks and 2 bigger ones for shirts and pants and it was only $19. It comes with wheels but I've never put the wheels on. I also have a narrower one with all the same size drawers for blankets and crib sheets and another for diaper accessory stuff (wipes, liners, wool) and one in my closet for lingerie and nightgowns and scarves and stuff.

AND ... the doctor I used to babysit for had plastic drawers for their kids clothes in their closets and they had all the money in the world they could have bought dressers with. That's actually where I got the idea from in the first place.

Check with your local freecycle. Use what you can in the meantime

My son is two and I still use a 3-drawer plastic thing that I got from Walmart for $15. I dont find it tacky at all. I myself only have a $100 dresser I bought from Walmart.

Re: Need advice for a baby dresser

for my baby dresser I got a cheap, dinged up, ugly white one for free from craigslist, and bought two coordinating cans of spray paint. I painted the dresser and pulls dark forest green and the drawers sage, and it looks fabulous. When DS gets older and it matters, if I still have it I'll add a safe clear coat. It cost me less than $5 and I love it

I do have one of smaller plastic Wal-Mart drawers for my undies and what-not, since they don't fit in my dresser, I don't mind it a bit.

I have a 5 drawer plastic one for DD. Once we have our master bedroom finished, DH is not going to need his dresser, so I'll be repainting it and giving it to DD. Then the 5 drawer plastic one will be a diaper dresser

Totally fine! And what's more, your LO won't open all the drawers and thus pull 50 pounds over on herself and give you a heart attack because you knew she wasn't a climber and so you hadn't secured it to the wall....

My 15mo still doesn't have a dresser! I put everything on hangers since he has a huge closet, and just stack clothes on the closet shelf. For his socks and onesies, I have two big red wicker baskets from Target on the floor and I put a handtowel that has a sailing theme in them as his room is sailing themed.

Re: Need advice for a baby dresser

At our house, each of us has a plastic dresser in our closets. Mine is for underwear, socks, and nursing (and other) tanks. DH has one for Underwear, Undershirts, and overflow of socks. DS has one with Pjs and other random things in it. The new baby already has one that just has baby stuff in it, pretty much anything that I have that doesn't hang well.
