Re: Cutting toddler nails

Oh I had this same question! Man is it tough. My 9 month old DD will sit while I do it, but she wants the clippers! No matter what else I give her or how hard I try and distract her, she wants those darn clippers. This makes it hard to clip the nails. So hubby holds her and I clip while she pulls her hand back and tries to grab the clippers. At least she does not scream, she is just very curious about what is going on I guess. (you would think after 9 mos of doing this she would know what I am doing )

Re: Cutting toddler nails

I have a 5 year-old who puts up a huge fight to do them while awake, so I have to do them when he's asleep... and then I have a 2 year-old who sees nail clippers and brings them to me so I can clip his nails

Re: Cutting toddler nails

My DH usually has to do it. DS will fight and scream if I try to do it. My DS likes to watch DH shave, so DH usually does it then. DS will stand there and watch DH cut his nails and it's no big deal.

Re: Cutting toddler nails

If you do it after bath time the nails are soft and easy to cut...and makes less noise so it wont distract them as much.

Re: Cutting toddler nails

I distract DS1 by letting him file his nails (hold the nail file) while I cut. Waiting until he's asleep only works if he falls asleep in the car seat, otherwise, it's too dark in his room.

TV when young (pre 1-year)! LOL -- she never got to watch TV, so five minutes was fascinating!

Now I just cut a few after a diaper change. She's already lying there, and is used to being still.

I clipped my baby's nails while they were sleeping. Now that they are older, I just tell them to be still.

Re: Cutting toddler nails

My son's only 10 months old and I can't do it unless he's sleeping. He's too curious, keeps trying to grab the clippers and put them in his mouth and doesn't like that I'm holding his hand hostage.
