Unhappy doc says there's no way to split the 6 in 1 shot

dh is pro-vac and I'm I guess a "cautious vac"... i do my reasearch and try to get the safest vac's in order to get my child fully vaccinated on a spread out schedule. he's 6 months and dh is really pushing to get the last shot. it's a 6 in 1. (polio, diphtheria, tetanus, HIB, Hep B, pertussis) I really don't like the ingredients. mercury, formaldehyde, aluminum... ick. not to mention it's 6 in 1.

I talked to the doc and he said in england where he's from he used to do what i wanted to do... split them up, since the individual shots have less additives. unfortunately you can't even get them here.

I'm totally bummed. fwiw i'm happy he agrees with my view on the vac, but he said ds will be fine and of course the actual diseases are worse... so as much as he doesnt like the shot he assures me it won't hurt him.

he did however have reservations about the mmr vaccine which I will look into for the future.

Ugh. I'm so sorry. I stress over the 3 in 1s I don't think they were doing 6 in 1 when Sarah was going through it.

Ooh that's a tough one! I am making them break up all ours but it sounds like that's not an option? I guess I would wait then but its hard if your dh is fighting you on this-

Yeah, that would be a big no from me.

Chances are, w/ warmer weather coming up and rusty nails and Hep B not being such a huge problem in the non-walking infant community (unless they're a little promiscuous ), your little man is not in much danger of catching any of those diseases right now. I would wait on it.

I'm not sure he agrees w/ his whole, oh he'll be fine, the diseases are worse attitude, 6 in 1 shot is A LOT, that's a lot of chemicals and stuff for his little immune system to handle.

I know.. I'm really struggling with this. I know all my friends kids have gotten it and been fine, but they did have a negative reaction the second time they got it (flu symptoms, cranky...).

DH is still pushing for it. I'll probably get it done once and see how it goes. We get them right in the hospital so if there's a problem he has treatment right away.

Can't you wait til he is older? Agree to do it...but why not until he is closer to school age? Babies here get the MMR 3 in 1 at around 12month...I couldn't imagine a 6 in 1 at HALF that age.

things like polio, tetanus, hep b... i wanted to wait until school age. but things like pertussis and HIB and stuff that he can pick up anywhere scare me. they actually recommend getting this shot at TWO MONTHS can you beleive it??

Umm, one, I've never heard of a 6 in 1 shot, but two, my daughter just got shots about a month ago and she got the DTAP and the Hep shots separate.

Your doc is saying HE won't split the 6 in 1. Call your local health department. I bet they carry DTaP separate from the others.
