Re: doc says there's no way to split the 6 in 1 shot

Yuck!

I believe HIB is a 4-shot series and DTaP is a 3-shot series... how can it be combined?

Sorry mama, I didn't catch the part about being in Canada. I know there are websites that mamas have used to order, for instance, MMR separated out (which is not available at the dr's office separated out). You could look into ordering it online, then having it delivered and administered by your dr's office. There is a reputable site that does this, but I can't remember what it's called... maybe someone else knows?

hmm. sounds fishy. Even if you are in Canada. Not all kids can get ALL shots. maybe some allergies or known contraindications and/or already had/have the illness. so they HAVE to have them separate available somewhere

If it can only be given in one injection, I would pass for now, that is alot for a child to absorb, I don't really know what else to suggest, your dh says yes , maybe have him get one too then, it shouldn't hurt him neither.
so sorry mama

Re: doc says there's no way to split the 6 in 1 shot

yep it's definitely 6 in 1. what's stupid is that the individual vaccines ARE approved for use in canada, you just can't get any pharmacy to order it for you. any links where I can order vaccines are appreciated! have any other canadian mamas dealt with this?? did you just skip it?

and I would bet that they ARE working on an all in one infant immunization as we speak, which of course the health departments will jump all over because they think that they have a better chance of getting all infants fully vaccinated with it.

I would be leary of giving all 6 vaxes together, what if your child has an allergic reaction? You would have no idea which one caused it! Then if you decided to weed it out, you would be playing russian rulette. I hope you find a place to order seperate vaccines!

I'm sorry I can't help you much. DD is not vaxed past 2 months and DS got up to 18 months but he's almost 3 now. I can't remember how many shots were in one dose.

The fact that you are on here asking about this speaks volumes. You really sound like you don't want to do this and I STRONGLY recommend that you wait if you have ANY reservations. My DF was upset when I decided no more vaxing, but he's totally on my side now. Don't let him pressure you into ignoring that mommy voice that is telling you to wait.

I'm pro vax but that is a bit much, esp. at that age. We seperate out DD's shots. I would def. wait until at least a year, if at all. Hopefully a fellow Canadian can help you out. Are you close to the border? Can you order it in the states and somehow get it to you?

Re: doc says there's no way to split the 6 in 1 shot

omgoodness...if your child has a reaction to one shot, however will you know which one? My DS got the mmr and dtap on the same day got Guillian Barre Syndrome and he can't ever have any of those vaccines again, together or separate since we don't know which one or which ingredients or maybe a combo of them all caused Guillian Barre...scarey stuff...i'd never give a combo vax. Good luck, I hope you can find something you feel okay about.
