This is the first sentence on the state bill that passed in Pennsylvania in May 2007:

Protecting the right of a mother PERMITTING A MOTHER THE FREEDOM to nurse her child in public; prohibiting a unit of local government from adopting an ordinance prohibiting breastfeeding in public; and providing that breastfeeding may not be considered a nuisance, indecent exposure, sexual conduct or obscenity.

Our school's official policy is that siblings can't come on field trips, but they've never said anything to me. I just drive myself. It's not like they can stop you from going to a public place, KWIM? (And yeah, the teacher was totally out of line!)

I can see both sides. I'm pro breastfeeding but I don't think I would be too happy if my son went on a field trip and a lady popped her boob out and fed in front of him. If you covered or went somewhere private I don't see the problem.

My friends and I all breastfeed in public all the time... at playgroups and child related stuff we don't even cover, but if there were children around older than 2 we do cover.

I'm a teacher in PA and our policy is no siblings at school events. Meaning if a parent comes in to read a story to the class or go on field trip, siblings are not allowed to attend. That being said, I have been on numerous field trips where parents just "show up". I'm not bothered by either that happening. I also think the teacher is out of line for making the comment about breastfeeding while on the trip. I would talk to the teacher to find out why she assumed that you would breastfeed while on a trip in the first place.
