Re: lilac/purple wool
maybe add a bit of blue raspberry to the grape and see what you get.

Re: lilac/purple wool
All the tutorials I have read have indicated that it's pretty much impossible to get a good purple color from kool-aid. You're right that the Grape flavor won't work-- it ends up being more of a gothy blackish purple if you use it to dye wool. You could try Wilton's cake dyes or Easter Egg dyes (now conveniently on sale!), or you could go with the jacquard acid dyes.

Re: lilac/purple wool
I use wiltons. If you get the light purple.. Use very little in your dye and it will come out a beautiful lilac color. Here is some that i stove top dyed.. And I only boiled it for about 10 mins and then took it out.. BC my wool lit on fire.. But it turned out BEAUTIFUL and i used the UNburnt part to make shorties..

Re: lilac/purple wool
Food coloring is what I use. Mix red and blue more or less to vary tone and intensity. Cheaper and simpler than anything else I've tried.

Re: lilac/purple wool
It seems like everyone either uses koolaid or food type colorings for dyes, or actual procion or similar dyes. Can you use koolaid for any fabric or are there certain fabrics that must be used with certain dyes?
