Where to get free/cheap wire hangers?

I'm putting some kids clothes in a consignment sale, and they all need to be on wire hangers which will not be returned. I've heard there are ways to get wire hangers free. I've tried freecyle and nothing. Anyone have any ideas on how to get free/cheap wire hangers?

(I found some at the dollar store 9 for $1. Is that a good price and probably the best I am going to do?)

Thanks for any advice!

Weird, Most of the sales I do must be on a hanger, not specifically wire... If they are just wanting disposable you can get TONS of plastic (store kind hangars) at carters outlets for free. You just call, and they let you come in at the end of the day and take the whole amount home. I got over 100 when I did this for a sale.

You might ask at a dry cleaning place if you can buy some from them?? Also ask the organizer of the sale, if she wants wire she ought to be able to tell you where she gets hers cheaply.

Have you checked Craigslist? I put up plastic hangers (for free) on CL when I'm cleaning my daughter's room out.

Have you checked with local dry cleaners?

Re: Where to get free/cheap wire hangers?

I just went through this with our local consignment sale. I purchased them from a local dry cleaner for .10/ea. 50 hangers for $5.00
Sometimes they will just give them to you but I never had any luck with that...
Also, Walmart sells wire hangers (in the iron/basket) aisle. They are a little more expensive than the drycleaners, at about $1.57/10 but are good to fall back on.
Good luck.
