Re: Extended swaddling

My YDD was swaddled until she was 8-9mo. We used the Swaddle-me blankets and loved them. One night she just started fighting the swaddle so we left her unswaddled and she did fine. That was it!

Re: Extended swaddling

We stopped swaddling around 3 months. Extended swaddling can cause hip problems, which are of concern to us since I have a few hip problems, and DH has major hip problems - we figure he's likely to have issues anyways, I'm not going to chance making them worse! To break him of it we started one nap a day using a sleep sack instead, then switched the other nap. Lastly we stopped at night. We went through a small period of him night waking more frequently than normal, but it lasted less than 2 weeks.

Re: Extended swaddling

Jonathan was around 6 months before he got where he'd take naps without being swaddled... which I think is a little odd considering he sleeps (and slept!) just fine between DH and I in our King bed without being swaddled at night. He did wear a sleep sack, but it was in no way restrictive.

I just used some of those flannel receiving blankets I was gifted (I think I was given 8?) and just figured out a way to tuck those until I purchased a Snappi to help along.

The swaddle-me leg bags were long enough that her legs were never bunched up so that wasn't an issue for us.

Re: Extended swaddling

I swaddle my LO's for a long time. Probably well past 6 months. DD#1 had been swaddled on occasion at 18+ months when she was really fussy and couldn't get to sleep. Worked like a charm!

Re: Extended swaddling

Wow -

THIS IS GREAT.

I swaddled my baby until 5 months when she got a high fever one night and she slept fine. Now in the last week she's been TERRIBLE at sleeping again and I've been so frustrated (we're almost 6 months now) - maybe I need to go back to our kiddopotomus large swaddle blanket?!?

What is swaddling? Is that cosleeping, or something else?

swaddling is wrapping them up like a little burrito like they do in the hospital

Re: Extended swaddling

my daughter is 20.5 months and still swaddled for all naps and bedtime. We have always wrapped her in blankets- no products like the Swaddle Me or anything like that.

We cannot get her to sleep without it... I really don't know what to do. I'm hoping she eventually goes to sleep without being wrapped like a burrito! lol

I just had another baby girl and she seems to like being swaddled too.

Re: Extended swaddling

DD2 is still swaddled at 4.5 months. DD1 was swaddled until about 5 months. As much as I would LOVE to kick the habit, she just seems need it so I'm stickin with it. If I try to let her sleep unswaddled she wakes up immediately.

I use a Miracle Blanket at night (feet out) and I use stretchy organic cotton blankets from Under the Nile for naps. This is just so I don't have to wash the MB too often and I am NOT shelling out $30 for another.
