Show me how your clothes line ATTACHES! DH needs a visual.
DH is going to hang my new clothesline for me the "real" way. I've just been trying to tie it and it looks silly since it is a plastic covered wire line. Can you show me how yours is "attached" to the fence, tree, deck or whatever? What hardware you used? I've seen some pulley systems on here but can't figure those out either and my DH was interested in that. Show me pics!

Mine is also just a rope tied between two posts on our deck. I would love to see how others are, though, because mine is not nearly long enough!

Re: Show me how your clothes line ATTACHES! DH needs a visual.
Okay, I'll go first.
![]() My line goes between my brick house and a post in the yard. I drilled a hold in the mortar of the brick about 6 1/2 feet up the wall and screwed an eye hook into the wall. Then I dug a 2 1/2 foot deep hole in the yard and set an 8 foot cedar post in the hole secured with cement. At the top of the post I drilled another hole and screwed another eye hook into it. Then I got a cotton clothesline and put a swivel eye hook snap hook on one end, measured the right length, and put a snap hook on the other end too. Now I can take down the clothesline easily when I'm not using it to keep the backyard looking pretty. And it goes up in a snap since I just clip it onto the two eye hooks. In my quest for a pretty yard, I also snazzed up the cedar pole. I put a copper fence post topper on it and put some plant hangers on it. I have a hummingbird feeder (empty, I'm afraid the birds will poop on my clothes if it has food in it) and small wind chimes on two of the sides. I'll put a hanging basket on the third side later this month. The fourth side is always empty because that's where the clothesline hooks on. I'll come back with some pictures. It's hard to describe! Okay, after rebooting pretty much everything electronic in the entire house, I finally got the pictures here. Here is the clothesline doing it's job: ![]() Here is a close-up of post when we were working on it: ![]() Since I am terrible with tool names (I had to look them up for this thread!), here is a picture of the eye hook: ![]() And here's a picture of the swivel eye hook snap hook:

I use 2 cleat hitches. They were the small ones for $2 each (with screws) at Walmart. They work great!

Re: Show me how your clothes line ATTACHES! DH needs a visual.
I bought the BEST retractable clothesline from a mama here on DS. I'll post pics when I get back from my trip.
It is mounted on one of my porch posts. I pull it out and around my porch to dry my dipes then retract it when I dont use it. It has a pulley thingy on it. HERE is a link to the product that looks like mine. Retractable Single Line Reel, 40 feet.

Re: Show me how your clothes line ATTACHES! DH needs a visual.
I also drilled an eye hook into my house (actually two side-by-side) and then ran it to two eye hooks I screwed into a tree... I just have my line knotted and then extra line run around the tree and looped back through the hook... (I hope that makes sense
) The swivel hook is a good idea, though, I'll have to try that!
