Re: Pacis for EBF babies - to use or not to use?
My son never wanted one...once he knew there wasn't any milk coming out of it, he wanted nothing to do with it. I guess at times I am a human pacifier...and that's fine by me

Re: Pacis for EBF babies - to use or not to use?
If you want no paci by 2, I'd say no paci at all.
I never offered a paci, no way could I risk it. DS got nipple confusion from just my finger, so I won't offer bottles unless it's 100% necessary, and i won't offer pacis. Even before he was born though, I planned no paci. I like being his comfort item, and I like that bonding feeling

I was the paci for dd, too, but with other young children there were times I would've been relieved to have had another way to comfort her for a couple of minutes.

Re: Pacis for EBF babies - to use or not to use?
We gave my son one only because he had to be under the billi lights so he needed the comfort but after that he showed no interest in it and I am glad I don't want a toddler walking around with a paci in his mouth.
When my Daughter is born I don't want her to take one at all so will not offer it to her. My grandmother laughs when she sees pacis...because they are a pretty new invention. Of course if she is Jaudince we will be handling it a lot differently this time around so we shouldn't have the need for the paci. |

Re: Pacis for EBF babies - to use or not to use?
My son had no interest in a paci, but my daughter loves hers so far.
We've had no nipple confusion at all, and there are times when she wants to suck but doesn't want milk and if I try to give her a boob she gets angry at the milk coming out, and then I give her her paci and she visibly relaxes and sucks away.

Re: Pacis for EBF babies - to use or not to use?
DS is EBF and we offered a paci around 4 weeks, and he refused it, we tried off and on and around 6 weeks he actually liked it. We use a newborn soothie, he doesn't like the 3mo+ ones.
We've seen no nipple confusion here. We use it for specific times, like calming down before bed, if he gets tired of being in the car, or if we're somewhere where he needs to be quiet for a little while. I'd say average daily pacifier time is 30 minutes, but it is worth those 30 min.

Re: Pacis for EBF babies - to use or not to use?
Other:
We didn't have nipple confusion from the pacifiers - but we DID from the bottles. I think pacifiers are a very personal decision, especially for those who have super-high needs babies who need to suck constantly. My son sucks his (almost 11 months) like I chew gum... We are still BF and he gets solids now, no issues. I do have issues though if he has a bottle of water at Oma's house.
