Re: O.k. Tell me about croup...

I have a lot of experience with croup. My youngest just had it a few weeks ago and like you i tried to stay away from meds but after a week of her getting worse and the cold air and the steam not working..we ended up on prednisone too for 3 days,it worked wonders..no great advice, hope your little one feels better soon!

Re: O.k. Tell me about croup...

The first time my son got croup (he was about 8 months old) we stayed away from the meds. By the time I got him to the doc he sounded pretty bad, but his oxygen levels were in the normal range and the doc said that he suspected he was at the worst of it. So we did the steam/cold air thing. The second time he got it (14 months old) we were a few days away from our Florida trip and I didn't want to have to cancel it because of sick kids (one of my other kids caught croup from him the first time so we double-dealt with it, didn't want that happening again.) So I did use the meds that time, and since we caught it early enough they really, really helped. He didn't get near as bad as the first time.

Re: O.k. Tell me about croup...

we did the cold, not the steam. my ds really didn't like the hot steam. I used the vaporizor in his room (two of them), and homeopathic pellets all day long. Spongia worked the best in the beginning and middle, hepar sulphur worked at the end the best, along with pulsatilla. I gave him aconite every day for about 5 days, as well as the others, and by the end of the week he was fine. I hope that helps! I do know that these remedies work, but not quickly, kwim? Hope you are all feeling better soon!

Re: O.k. Tell me about croup...

Try a cool mist humidifier instead of the steam shower. It seems to work better for most kids
