How do you fund IVF?? Hubby and I TTC since 2006 with no luck!

I have a condition called MacroAdenoma ... more specifically Prolactinoma.

Due to this illness I never see a period nor do I ovulate, I want to one day be able to get pregnant! How would we go about funding IVF?

Does insurance cover anything at all??

I don' t have any experience with it personally, but most people I have talked to have just saved up for it or have taken out a loan for it and from what I understand most insurances don't cover the fertility treatments. Not sure though so maybe someone else in here will have more info for you : ]

There is something called an IVF holiday... might be an option? Don't know much about it, but look into it.

thanks Jeebee .... I have heard of IVF Holiday but was looking for something in the states ... I am from abroad and could potentially go back for IVF to my mother nation given that my mother is an OBGYN fertility specialist but with two kids already and trying to finish school .... traveling is not the way we had planned for it!

some insurances cover it if its a known medical condition thats not "fixed" wih just meds, etc. youd need to look into that though.

I would check with your insurance company to see what they'll cover.

I've heard of ladies save for IVF and TTC naturally or with meds while they wait.

And I've heard of ladies who were able to get personal loans for IVF.

Good luck!

I believe that IL has some level of mandated coverage.

From the Resolve website (www.resolve.org)
Quote:
ILLINOIS
1991, 1997, Ill Rev. Stat. ch 215
Section ILCS 5/356m

Definition of Fertility/Patient Requirements

Infertility means the inability to conceive after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse or the inability to sustain a successful pregnancy.
Coverage

Group insurers and HMOs that provide pregnancy related coverage must provide infertility treatment including, but not limited to: diagnosis of infertility; IVF; uterine embryo lavage; embryo transfer; artificial insemination; GIFT; ZIFT; low tubal ovum transfer.
Coverage for IVF, GIFT and ZIFT is provided if the patient has been unable to attain or sustain a successful pregnancy through reasonable, less costly, infertility treatments covered by insurance.
Each patient is covered for up to 4 egg retrievals. However, if a live birth occurs, two additional egg retrievals will be covered, with a lifetime maximum of six retrievals covered.
The procedures must be performed at facilities that conform with ACOG and ASRM guidelines.
Exceptions

Employers with fewer than 25 employees do not have to provide coverage.
Does not require religious employers to cover infertility treatment.
Employers who self-insure are exempt from the requirements of the law.
This is actually better then we have here in NJ. I only got 4 ER per lifetime.

If you need help finding and RE I recommend going to another site that I know gets WAY more people doing IVF. www.fertilethoughts.com When I was doing IVF the monthly people doing IVF at the same time as me were at least 20 every month!

Good luck! If you would like to know more about the process from someone that has been there and done that just ask!

I agree with all the other posters. I would check to see what your insurance WILL cover.

With us. We went through lots before we did IVF. We did 3 rounds of Clomid, 1 injectible medication cycle with timed intercourse, 6 injectible cycles with IUI, 2 fresh IVF's (first one worked but I miscarraied and there were no embryos to freeze) and have done 3 frozen embryo transfers.

With our first IVF, my husband delivered pizzas and saved the money as our insurance payed for some of it. The second we used my retirement money that I cashed in as I had just left a job.

I wish you all the luck in the world. I can relate to how difficult it is.

Feel free to pm me if you want to just "talk" or have any questions.

Yes I thought I could get coverage because of this mandated coverage but turns out DH works for the USDA and our insurance is a Federal one so Fed govt overrule state!!!

Subbing....will most likely be doing IUI soon but the possibility of IVF is there too. I think we would have to take out a loan and also both get some hours working part time and cutting back on our budget to afford this.
