Re: i'm confused about prefolds

Ok, I'm not the PF 'pro' per se, but I'll try to list the differences as best as I can:
1) IPF vs CPF, Indian vs Chinese: Indians are much softer IMO than Chinese
2) Preemie size is the smallest and actually never really fit my 9lbs NB. I mainly used it trifolded inside another bigger PF
3) Infant size is the next step up after preemies and measures ~ 12x14" if I'm not totally wrong. It also has the layers 4x6x4. This is mostly used up to 6 months (Depending on the baby, of course)
4) Next is the regular PF, which means it's bigger than the Infant, but still has the same layer 4x6x4.
5) The Premiums are the same size as the regulars, but have a thicker inner layer; 4x8x4.

Ok, I just checked on mommacommune.com for the Thirsties brand of PFs ( them!!! They're the best IMO!!! ) and here are the size describtions for them:
Newborn* 9.5 x 13 4x6x4 4-10lbs

Infant Regular 12 x 16 4x6x4 7-15lbs

Infant Premium 12 x 16 4x8x4 7-15lbs

Baby Regular 14.5 x 21 4x6x4 15-30lbs

Baby Premium 14.5 x 21 4x8x4 15-30lbs

Toddler 17.5 x 23 4x8x4 30-45lbs

HTH a lil bit!

Re: i'm confused about prefolds

With DD we started with infant premiums (infant but with 4x8x4 layers). They were way too big for her as a newborn (6lb 11oz). After a month or two they were better. After she outgrew those, we moved on to premiums. They were big at first, but are now perfect. If I were to do it again, I would start with preemies and then move up to infants. I bought mine at cottonbabies.com but other places are good as well.
