diy dairy?

Does anyone make their own butter/sour cream/cheeses/cottage cheese, etc. I found a couple recipes for ricotta and I want to get a cheesemaking book or kit. Other than that I have no idea how to even experiment, which I'd love to do. Maybe it will be more expensive, and maybe not, but I think it would be interesting and defenitely cut down on food package waste.

Re: diy dairy?

I just made my own batch of homemade yogurt last week! It was great! Sort of like a science experiment! I did one batch in the crock pot and another in the oven (gas with pilot light). It was a little runnier than store bought, but I think I figured out that it cost about 1/4 as much as the plain, whole milk, organic from the store, and about 1/8 as much as yobaby... DD and I had some every day, and I'm making another batch tomorrow!
