Question HELP! I even burn the bread!!

Yup your thinking right...Im a bad cook and need help!! Now that my fiance is home from deployment and were both trying to eat healthy I really need to start cooking us home made, healthy meals(on a budget) but have NO idea where to start! So far we've switched to 1% milk and quit eating out mostly. I made chicken for dinner tonight but it was dry and didn't really have much flavor even though I put seasonings on it. I can make mashed potatoes but that's it. Also does anyone know a good, easy homemade mac n cheese recipe? My daughter is a mac n cheese FIEND but I would like to get away from so much boxed foods! So pretty much im asking for any tips, advice, recipes, ANYTHING to help me out! Thank you!!

Thank you! Next trip to the grocery store i'll definitely pick this stuff up! How much condensed milk and velveeta? Also do I melt the velveeta seperately or just put it in with the milk and elbow pasta and let it melt together?

Try adding pureed vegetables (I use carrot or butternut squash) to the mac and cheese so she also gets her daily dose of vegetables.

Re: HELP! I even burn the bread!!

It seems to me that if you are going to get away from processed foods velveeta is not the way to go. In fact mac and cheese is really not a "healthy" food no matter how you look at it. I would suggest whole wheat pasta with pesto as an alternative. You can make it very cheaply in the summer when the basil is cheap. I make it without garlic to make it more mellow.

On the other hand, if you really want to make mac and cheese from scratch, I use alton brown's recipe here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/a...ipe/index.html

I leave out the mustard powder and hot sauce to more approximate the boxed variety.
