3 in 2 years - am I crazy?

I have 6 month old twins. DH and I want a third child and he prefers around a 2 year gap, so we've recently started discussing TTC when the girls are around 1.

Am I crazy for considering this? How chaotic is life with 3 under 2? Specifically those with twins and a singleton close in age, how hard is it? My twins are, for the most part, easy babies, but I know that could quickly change. I'm also terrified of having another set of twins.

Re: 3 in 2 years - am I crazy?

It is doable. My singleton was 22.5 months when my twins were born. So, it's been almost a year with all three. It is tough at times, and going out alone takes some getting used to, but now I can do just as much by myself during the day as what I did when I only had the one baby. So, no, you aren't crazy! It really is quite a bit of fun too!

I think it should be what you prefer since you are a SAHM!

I'm not picky on age gaps between kids. Right now, my twins are lots of fun and fairly easy to care for, much easier than I expected with twins. I just worry about how hard life may be with 3 little ones.

I am not a muliply Mom actually my kids are almost exactly 8 yrs apart and honestly I wish they weren't it is like having 2 only children(we had fertility issues so we really couldn't control it)

I am the oldest of 5 and me and my brother are 2 yrs apart and then the youngest 3 are all 2 yrs apart. My Mom has always said that adding the 2nd child is the hard part and everything is easy

Re: 3 in 2 years - am I crazy?

Two years ago, I had 4 children, with 3 under age 3, and they were singletons! It is not as bad as it seems. Escpecially since you are a SAHM, so you won't have to go through the trouble and expense of leaving them with a sitter or daycare.

No many or multiples here yet but I would see how you feel once your twins get 8-11 months. For both my singletons, one of which was pretty good as an infant and one who was a dream, things sure changed for that period. Come 12 months, it was totally different and a ton of fun. Its like the pre-toddler time turned my kids into teething, clingy crazies temporarily.

Re: 3 in 2 years - am I crazy?

My oldest was 19 months when my twins were born and I have to admit it was really hard until my oldest was a little over 2 and I was able to reason with him a bit. You're going from 2 to 3 and I went from 1 to 3 so I really don't think it would be as much of a shock for you. If your girls are good babies then maybe they'll help you with a newborn too!

My girls are all 15 months apart. My oldest was 30 months when DD3 was born. DD1 & 2 occupied themselves just enough for me to do what I needed with DD3. Hopefully having the twins first you will fall into that same boat. I love having my kids close. They are all close and I get to have my 40's to myself. HAHA

Re: 3 in 2 years - am I crazy?

yep, it's doable, but very tiring at first! I had a 14 mo old boy when I had my twin boys. That was crazy!! We had a little help and eventually established the routine. I agree with one other comment that once my older boy was 2, life was a little easier. Now we are having our 4th, so we'll have 4 ages 3 and under!
