How To Fix An Feeding Pump

My daughters feeding pump is broken... and I don't know what to do...

The little door on it is cracked. I thought I could just call and order a new one from the company- but I can't afford to pay almost $100 for the little door. And our insurance doesn't cover "existing equipment"....

I have tried a rubber band, but it doesn't keep it tight enough to put the pump in the backpack to leave the house.
Tape is a pain because I have to keep taking it off and putting it back on...

Any ideas???

I wish I did. How horrible! Can your dr prescribe you a new one and possibly get a new one? On our feeding tube the - sign was going out and I took it back to our DME and they handed us a new one. Not sure if they recharged the insurance or if I will eventually receive a bill though.

What kind is it? Our entrilite infinity does this all the time. I just call Zevex (the company that makes them) and they overnight me a new one with prepaid sticker to return the other one. If its a known problem, they will usually fix it. In the mean time, I made kind of a buckle out of elastic for my son's.

Is it the Zevex Enteralite Infinity pump?
We've had two of them and the cover cracked on both of them. We rent it through our home health company and the insurance company pays the home health company so we just have them send a new one.

However, if you have the same sort of pump it sounds like the cover is a bad design! Have you tried calling Zevex to have them fix it?

Good luck!

Re: How To Fix An Feeding Pump

Glad to hear that you guys with the Zevex Enteralite Infinity don't seem to have a problem getting a new door. We have the same feeding pump and other than our - sign going out on us, we've never had any problems.

Yeah, the Infinity has that problem. If that's what you have, you shouldn't have an issue getting a new door. If your insurance won't cover the replacement door through your medical supply company, then just give Zevex a call and explain the situation. They *should* take care of it for you because it is an common issue with the pump.

We have also had good experience with Zevex, our local rep even came out to put the new door on the pump for a friend when hers cracked. We have the Entralite (sigh) that isn't made anymore, they just sent us a working one when ours died.

Insurance will usually pay for a new one every 3 years or so. We have our doc write the Rx for the specific model.
