Cold med and BF

Does anyone have any good suggestions as to what I should take for this stuffy head of mine. I checked on kellymom but I still don't know what to do. It says to used Fenegreek tea, but I hate the smell of it, makes me gag. Sudephed is supposed to be ok, but I get that buzzed feeling so it will keep me up all night. I don't have much around the house right now, no extra Vit C. Any suggestions what I should try. I am open to natural or meds, hopefully something I might have here since it is getting late and I don't want to drag the girls out tonight.

I was told the best option was just to use a nasal decongestant spray. That way it doesn't get fully absorbed by your whole system.

I heard sudafed was bad because it drys you up (your nose and possibly your milk).

I take hot lemon honey water. you could also use to make tea that you like. Fennel, mothers milk, stuff like that if you prefer those over fenugreek.

plain water in a nasal spray helps too.

Re: Cold med and BF

Definitely be careful with seudafed. I had a cold when dd was about 6 months old and I used ONE sudafed a day for three days and I had a noticable dip in my milk supply. It came back in about a week, but if you are more senstive or take more of it than I did you could have serious milk issues.

Sorry to say that about all you can take is gufanessin (sp?) and saline nasal spray.

I have been told by my MW and my LLL leader that cold meds are generally a no-no since they will dry up your milk. Try a humidifier and saline spray and hopefully that will help. You can also do those Emergen-C packets and that should help, too.

I was also told by the pharmacist that there isn't anything you can take while breastfeeding...just have to wait it out and drink some hot tea, use a humidifier

I was told by dr. that they could lower your milk supply. I avoided them just incase. Saline nasal spray, drink lots of water and sleep with head prop up at night helped me.

I was told by pharmacists that nasal sprays were okay, just follow the directions, and don't use them longer than recommended!

An Afrin-type sinus/nasal spray worked wonders for me. Then make sure you get as much rest and healthy stuff as possible to try to kick the cold in 3 days! LOL
