Re: Freebirthing

I would want to have a home birth with just me and my DH, but DH would rather not. Well he might with a midwife...

From my own birth experiences, I can understand the numerous reasons why someone would not want to go to the hospital to give birth.

I wouldn't choose to birth at home without a midwife present.

Re: Freebirthing

I have had two glorious "freebirths."

Several mamas here have had unassisted births. It's really amazing if you give it a chance. (health permitting, of course.)

Re: Freebirthing

Because of my DD's complications at birth, I know I will have a hard time deciding what to do if I have another baby. Unassisted is very high up on my list because if I had the same situation happen, I would choose to let the baby die rather than go through what DD has gone through. I go back and forth between wanting a planned c-section, to wanting a homebirth with a midwife who is ok with not calling the squad, to doing unassisted, to doing a hospital birth only if they would be willing to abstain from interventions if the same thing happened.

Bottom line....I'm not going to let someone force my child to live and it would be simpler if there was no midwife or doctor to resuscitate him/her or call the squad against my wishes.

And now that we think DD's problems may be genetic in nature...well let's just say it's even more important I have a good plan in place.

Re: Freebirthing

A DS mama was one of the women in the freebirthing show. She wrote a bit about it in another thread a few months ago. I'll see if I can find it.....

I had just such a birth with my DD (the link to my birth story and pictures is in my siggy) and it was the most peaceful, connective, empowering experience of my life.
