Re: Vitamin Supplement

the others have already told you about vit d and sunlight, so i won't go into that. but iron is another one your pedi (or someone else for that matter) may talk to you about. yes, its true that there is not as much iron in bm as formula, but it is actually able to be absorbed by the baby's body. they have to super load the formula with iron just so enough of it will be absorbed by the baby. bm is perfect, all that your baby needs. no water, vitamins, cereal etc. just milk, as nature intended it.

Re: Vitamin Supplement

Isnt it just a certian number of minutes a day to get enough sunshine to get the vit d? I would think our dc's are getting the right amount of sunshine or more (for vit d) just between getting in and out of the car running errands.

Re: Vitamin Supplement

Ok i'm the odd one out but I gave my little one the tri-vi-sol vitamin drops last winter. He was EBF until he started solids at 6mo.

We get down to around 5hrs of daylight in the worst of winter and sometimes its below zero for a couple weeks at a time. We honestly didn't leave the house for a week at times. That is my reason I gave my EBF'er vit drops. Now that we are in that horrible cold, dark part of winter again he is getting vitamins again.

We are a special situation though. And thats my

Re: Vitamin Supplement

Thanks!

Y'all pretty much summed up my thoughts on the subject - but I just wanted to know if there were any convincing arguments for using a supplement.

Re: Vitamin Supplement

Another thing I read is that your body is capable of storing Vit D, so during the winter when theres not much sun, you have it stored up already. Not sure how that applies to a NB, but thought it was cool.
