ok honestly, do kids normally bump their heads this often at t his age? (8.5 months)

DS started crawling a month ago, which was ok (except for the crawling in his sleep and the occasional bump) but now he's at that "pull up to stand on everything" stage and its literally 5 or more times a day he smacks his head on something.

here's a typical day:

ds wakes up and gets his diaper changed. crawls away mid change and is halfway down the hall and smacks his head on a doorframe when he turns around to look at the dog

ds tries to climb on top of his piano toy, I don't open the baby gate in time and he does a nose dive into the wall. (piano toy now banned from play area...)

ds stands up at his plastic table, does a face plant when his feet just disappear from under him.

ds crawls around on the kitchen floor, tries to stand up and hits his forehead on the cabinet

ds crawls around while i'm in the bathroom, tries to climb in the tub, falls back when he looks at me just before i grab him to get him away from the tub

ds plays in his babyproof play area and tries to climb the mesh gates, smacking his head on the hard plastic on the gate....

and on and on.

i hope this doesn't last long. unless i keep my hands on him at all times he bonks his head on something.

My ds was a few months older but last summer I swear he had a permanent knot on his forehead. He hit it constantly!!!

Sounds perfectly normal. My DS (now 3) still runs right into things!

My DS was the SAME WAY! Still is actually, but it surprised me also how young it all started!

yes.. my DS is 13.5 months.. this has been going on for MONTHS .. i think 8.5 months was his first big bump.. he almost always has a big blue mark on his forehead..

In one weekend, my son ended up with two black eyes (courtesy of a big and bulky coffee table where we were staying on vacation) and a huge bump on his forehead when he was a year old. I felt so bad and seriously thought about a helmet too! They do make soft ones for babies if it would make you feel better, I would do it. It's amazing that he is so daring at such a young age!

Oh mama, you just described our life a few months back. It started about 9mths but has pretty much curbed since turning a year. Now we only have about an accident a week.. (instead of one every 2 hrs).. its normal!!

Recently DS was in a really super goofy mood and DH said "remember all those head injuries he had?"

Hasn't happened in a long time anyway.
