Re: Do you let your DS play with baby dolls?

My DS has a doll named Jake that he loves sometimes. He likes to pretend that it's his baby or sometimes that it's his brother. His real baby brother likes to give it hugs. I think one reason he likes it so much is that he gets to behave with the doll in ways he can't with his real brother. He can pick it up (our baby is CHUNK-E) and swing it around (you know by the hands and you turn in a circle, we do it with him, now that he's older, but never the baby). He's very sweet to it. My husband has no problem with it at all. He thinks it's cute.

I think that in many families, the role of the father has changed and that dads have become (more often) equal or partial caretakers of their children and that the taboo of a boy wanting to take care of a baby and mimic his mom and dad has fallen off quite a bit.

ETA: Even more than playing with dolls (which happens a couple of times a month) he likes to pretend that he's a baby or a baby dionosaur.

I wouldn't mind. I don't like the idea of restricting him/genderizing him so early... they're just toys
he's only 1 by the way... so later I may feel different?

Neither me nor my husband would care if our son played with dolls at all... we just don't have any in the house, and besides, our son is WAY into trucks and cars and "boy stuff" and doesn't even like stuffed animals so I doubt he would play with a doll if we offered one.

Re: Do you let your DS play with baby dolls?

I bought DS a doll when I was pregnant. He does not like it much. I did see him once put a doll's head in his pants. DH & I were really wondering about that. When I asked him, he told me he was going to have a baby too!

Mine don't really have too much interest since their sister came along after them and there were not dolls in the house until she came.

Once in awhile they will be playing with them but not too often. It doesn't bother me either way though.

My middle son loves playing house with DD and I love the interaction they get with one another. It's their little bonding time and think it's great.

He feeds the dolls and puts them to sleep while she usually does other things... it's kinda funny how they are set in their ways.

We don't have any. We just have one little boy. I doubt I'll buy him a doll but if he has sisters and they have them, we won't discourage him from playing with them...

Both of my DSs were given their own babies right before I had their sisters. YDS even has his own WAHM diaper bag and cloth diapers in a little man print They're going to be great daddies some day!
