sometimes, but only if what i'm wearing requires it. and not for my own modesty either, but for other people's comfort. i probably shouldn't care that much, but this is DC and people tend to be uptight.

Re: Do you use a nursing cover in public?

I used one when DD was little - then around 5 months old, I left it at a friend's house out of town! Baby still needed to eat, so I got over my shyness pretty fast Now I never use it. Plus DD doesn't like it anymore now that she's used to being free! (I'm a big fan of nursing tops, tho)

I agree that the bright colors seem to make it pretty obvious whats going on under there, but I had more than one person come up and try to move the cover to look at the baby! Guess they got a good view! lol I learned to react quicker after that! Even if other people did know, I did like using the cover when everything was new and we were still learning.

I do, out of respect for others. I agree with Punkin, I am not out to prove anything and realize that it makes other uncomfortable. I found one that has a tie at the neck and some boning in the top so I can look at baby and he can look back.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Keep 'em comin'.
It is nice to know that I am not the only one who does not always do it. I rarely see other women not using one in my town. I think I did once and the nursling was probably 2 or 3. It was so cool and I told her that I thought she was great for doing it

Most people don't even realize I'm nursing. But a big blanket/tent draped over your shoulder? If it had a mouth it's be screaming, "Look at me, I'm nursing over here!" I mean, I understand that some people have a hard time getting over the nerves, or have a baby who unlatches a lot and would be flashing everyone all the time... but I really don't see "discreet" with a nursing cover!

this is me but we have just 2 LO DD she weaned at 4yrs and I never had a designated "cover" and did not cover but I had slings. Still even with the sling I did not cover her.

I just bf whenever, wherever and nothing can really be seen when we NIP n
With DS he is 22 mths and bfing and if I tried covering him he would make way more of a scene pulling the sling up and down and play "pee-a-boo-booby" all while laughing and nursing at the same time

I used one in the first month of my baby's life while I "learned to latch quickly" then I just stopped. It was too hot and I got waaaaaaaay more looks with it than with out.

That's exactly how it would be if I covered with my 1 y.o. He likes to be uncovered and looking around! He's starting to nurse standing up now so he can get a view of everything!

To the OP question: I only used a cover in the beginning [maybe a month] then I just said forget it. It was too hot, too much work and my son didn't like it.
I don't outright expose myself now, but I do nurse anytime, anywhere. Usually if someone feels uncomfortable, they move. I won't personally cover for anyone because I don't ask them to cover their face when they eat.

Re: Do you use a nursing cover in public?

I do, but only because my NB still needs guidance latching on and when he's done it's a lot to juggle since he still has that big floppy head. I don't plan on covering when he gets better at nursing and can support himself a little bit more.
