does she have a sleep disorder?

My middle dd is a very weird sleeper. First off, she has a TON of nightmares. I would say 5 nights a week. Second, sometimes I go in there just to check on her and she is in odd positions or doing weird things. Last night I went in (she wasnt crying) and she was sitting in bed, legs crossed, and rotating her wrists around and around. I know she was asleep, and I helped her lay back down. She has no memories of this or other times that she isnt fully awake. Sometimes she screams and cries and and when I go in, it is like she doesnt know I am there. She will also talk in her sleep a lot. Oh, this really bothers me, but she is convinced from her dreams (yet is so calm about it) that she is going to be murdered when she is 7. We dont let her watch anything any remotely violent bc she has had nightmares since she was like 2. She is 3 1/2 now. I dont even let her watch Spongebob. She only watches stuff like Dora, Diego, Yo Gaba Gaba and Jack Big Music show. Is this normal? My 2 other kids are awesome sleepers.

Night Terrors. Seriously, have her checked out by a sleep specialist ASAP! My DH had these as a child, and DS has them. If you would like, you can PM me for more info and after you get her checked out, if that is what it is, I will have DH email from my account to explain how she can bring herself out of it. He lived with it for years, and still sleep walks and talks, but hasn't had a night terror since he was 14 I think.

Re: does she have a sleep disorder?

Wow that is rough mama! I had sleep issues and would talk and interact with people then not remember anything in the morning. I also was a Long term bed wetter...never woke all the way up. once i am told I even slapped my mom in my sleep when she was trying to make me get up and go to the bathroom. No memory of this at all...and my eyes were open. I grew out of all that fun stuff...so hopefully yours will too. I had a specialist look at me...but that was along time ago. I am guessing they are better these days at diagnosing sleep issues. In college I had a roomie with crazy bad nightmares. She had them all her life. She is very highly spiritual now and gifted in healing and knowing. I don't know what your beliefs are there...but just sharing. She is now in her 30's and still has nightmares, but is no longer as scared of them. I think I remember her telling me about unrealistic things she would believe from her dreams like about getting attacked by snakes and stuff. How sad that your Lo thinks she will be murdered. That must be so hard on you to hear that!!

Your pediatrician can refer you to a sleep specialist. That is what we did with DS. He went in overnight for a sleep study. It was sad seeing him hooked up to all of the wires, but he didn't even notice!
