every time DS gets really upset (like when he's throwing a tantrum) he gets a bloody nose.....does this happen to anyone else, and is it OK/normal?

Re: bloody noses

It has happened to Micah twice, I think? When he gets really upset and the tantrum lasts for an extended period of time. I think that if it happens sporadically, it could be chalked up to "normal", but if it is happening on a regular basis, I would seek a medical opinion. From what I understand, crying increases the blood flow to the face, so it makes sense that after a huge tantrum, he could cause his nose to bleed as I would imagine their membranes are pretty thin at this stage. With Micah's nosebleeds, as soon as he stopped crying, the bleeding stopped.

How often is his nose bleeding? How long does the bleeding last? Does it stop when he stops crying?

One thing that helped us reduce tantrums was introducing sign language. Increasing his communication and, in turn, increasing my understanding of his wants and needs definitely decreased the number. Not completely eliminate, of course, but definitely reduced.

Re: bloody noses

His nose bleeds with nearly EVERY tantrum....and unfortunately, he's going through one of those stages where that happens around once a day but it does stop after he stops crying....

Oh, no...I think that I might mention it at your next WBV. It is good that it stops, but the frequency might concern me a little.
