Re: Would I know if my son were aspirating?

my dd was about 13 mths old and had been getting upper respiratory infections and pneumnia about every other mth since she was about 1 mth old. we where at a developmental peds office when a nurse noticed that she lost alot of formula out of her mouth and suggested to the doc that we get a swallow study. She has hypotonia so she has what they call micro aspirations. she cant swallow or cough hard enough to clear her throat. So she was getting asperation pnuemnia. she did fine on solid foods it was just liquids she had problems with. they put her on hunny thick liquids, and now at 3 1/2 she has not had pnuemnia in over a year. and is down to necture thickness.
