Customizing a BECO Butterfly 2 Pics

Hi everyone.

I have got the creative bug lately. I found this Micheal Miller fabric that is in the same line as the fabric used on the Grace Beco. (I love it) But I have boys. Michael Miller makes a pattern almost the same, but instead of flowers it has animals and jungle on it.

So I got a second hand beco with brown straps- in this case a carnival one and put the new fabric over top of the old print. I cut it, folded the edges under and pinned it all in place. (I also removed the beco tag) I then hand stitched it. That makes it easy to remove if I want, and doesn't weaken the cloth or leave holes like machine stitching could.

Now you can't see any of the carnival.. and you have to look really close to see the stitches. I think it looks pretty cool. Just goes to show that if you find a really good beco deal on here, get one. You can put your own print on it.











I also added elastic for the shoulder straps to pass through, this keeps the strap on the end of the padding and helps with armpit chafing.

I've been toying with the idea of making snap-on removable panels for my boring metro black Beco. I have fabric and I have the snaps, I just haven't had the time to fiddle with them. But I'm thinking it could be a nice way to change it up depending on my mood or what I'm wearing on any given day. Anyone else ever tried this or have any thoughts? (Especially those of you that sew... I don't really sew, but I thought it sounded like an easy enough project...)

Steal any of this project you want, not like I can do this for money.

I think the snap idea would be cool to switch it out...but I think that the print under would show a bit? As the carrier bends around your kiddo you will get gaps between the snaps....just my thought. For me this wasn't too hard. Just an evening spent catching up on fav. shows after kids go to bed. Hand sewing is nice cause you don't have the noise of the sewing machine.
