I can't believe this

Augh, DS ate my post.

Background: dd is sensitive to carrots and 15 months old (bloody rash w/in 2 hours)

I let MIL, GMIL, and SIL watch dd while dh and I loaded the van tonight, and came back in to them feeding her..

not strained carrots.

not cooked, cubed carrots.

not raw cubed carrots.

WHOLE, RAW CARROTS.

15 MONTHS OLD.

WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT!!!!

I didn't know what to say, freaked out and said she was allergic, swiped out her mouth and got bitten in the process, and nursed her before we left. I am LIVID. SIL has 2 kids, my mil raised 3, etc... what the heck were they thinking!? In what world was that EVER okay to give a 15 month old?!

I need a drink. WTF.

Were they right there with her? Just tonight I gave DD (16 months) a whole raw carrot to knaw on, I just stayed next to her in case she actually bite a piece off. But she only has 6 teeth with 2 popping in & out, so she really appreciates the cold hard carrot to chomp her gums on.

ARGH! Did you go off on her? I sure would have. A couple days ago I had my mom babysit Asher, who had REALLY bad diarrhea. I gave her a strict list of what he couldn't eat (even though she should know anyways). What does she do? Totally ignore it. When I asked her about it she was like "Well he wanted it." Of course she wasn't there later that night to help change/comfort him when he pooped like 5 times in two hours!

Next time you see your SIL you should give her a book on CHOKING HAZARDS! And of course tell her all about the horrible rash your DD got, and exaggerate it too.

They were with her, but she was walking around with it. She has almost a full mouth of teeth and had several LARGE chunks in her mouth when I swiped it.

Also, related - this child chokes *often*, at least once a week, on anything from bread to cubed turkeymushmeat (those gerber things all chopped up).

Re: I can't believe this

I have a chokey baby who can't tolerate carrots too. I would be livid.

Sorry mama. I'm glad she's ok (for the most part) and that you got there before anything bad happened. I NEVER let people watch my kids for that reason. Man, people (even ones I really love a lot) are awfully stupid sometimes. I gotta say - they CAN watch them while they sleep.

OMG, walking makes it like 10x more dangerous! It kinda makes you wonder what he lets her kids do...

ok, that is just so not ok, I could see if they were right there, really paying attention, but not just letting her walk around with chunks missing from the stick, that is just irresponsible

Re: I can't believe this

I really don't know what to say. I *want* to pitch a true FIT about it.. but I have to get along with these ppl for the next like 50 years.

I think for now DH is going to tell them she has extensive allergies and can't have anything we don't provide for her, or something.

ETA: and we won't be leaving her alone with them, either.. but I know if we run to the bathroom or something I now *don't* know what they'll do in those 2 minutes and don't trust them.
