Any adoptive parents here??

Can you give me info on how long it took you from start to finish and costs involved? Where did you adopt from? Locally/internationally?

Also, if you have a link to the agency you used to help you, I'd appreciate it too.

Thanks!!

Re: Any adoptive parents here??

We went through the state. Fostered first. That takes way longer.

You can type adoption in any search engine and tons of sites will come up. I think adopt.org is one.

You will also need a homestudy for any adoption, no matter where you go. You could call your county welfare office and talk to a case worker about getting that done.

Each state also has a book and a website for the kids in their state that need to be adopted. You could ask your library if they have the book....they should. The website would be listed on that too.

Cost is going vary. My step-parents adoption was way more from start to finish because of the battles and fighting.

I would say that an in country adoption could range from anywhere fromm $500 to $5,000. If you go through a private agency they have agency fees.....so I would try a state office first.

yeah, I am looking at international, not local, so I am running into costs of $12,000 to as much as $20,000.

Re: Any adoptive parents here??

We did state/foster adopt for our first but are going for an international for our second. There is a great agency we will be working with, Lifelink, here in the chicago 'burbs. There is also Bethany which is big, but they just rubbed me the wrong way, kwim?

The price and wait will depend on your country. Guatemala, for example, is one of the highest priced. South Korea is right in the middle, and Phillippeans (sp?) are more affordable. We will be adoption through the south korea program but I have lots of info on lots of countries as well. Pm me if you want more details!
