Another question about newborn and convertibles?
What convertible have you found works best for a newborn? DS will be 20 mo when our new LO will be born. We currently have a Marathon and a Radian in my car that get used for him and the LOs I babysit. If we use a convertible for the new baby DS would be in the Marathon, and I could use the Radian for the baby. My mom just mentioned the other day that she would like to buy a carseat for her car. I was going to have her get a ETA, but if there is a convertible that would be better for a newborn, I will give her the Radian, and buy a different one for us. I know I have heard that the Truefit works great for newborns. Are there any others that are good for newborns that would ERF and have a higher harness weight? And what have you found to fit the best?

Re: Another question about newborn and convertibles?
If I'm not mistaken(and someone please correct me if I'm wrong), one of the radian models either come with or you can purchase an infant insert that's made by the manufacturer that makes them newborn friendly. And since in the US they RF to 40lbs now, they'd be an excellent choice.

Re: Another question about newborn and convertibles?
Well we got the Radian about 6 mo ago, and it is still one that only RF til 35lbs, but if LO #2 is anything like DS that will still last us awhile. (He's about 24lbs at 17 mo). So I went to sunshine kids website, and they have two different support products that look like they would be good for a newborn.
http://www.skjp.com/products/skjp_radian_80.php My question is since these are from the actual manufacture, they have been tested with the safe, and safe to add to the car seat correct? If so that may be another reason to go with it, because the head support we used for DS was an aftermarket product, and as much as I loved it, I didn't feel comfortable using it for this baby knowing what I do now, and they one that actually came with the infant seat just seemed so cheap and cheesey! |

Re: Another question about newborn and convertibles?
If you have a seat made after September of 2008, it's supposedly retroactive that you can RF to 40 pounds. The ComfySoft is ok to use with the seat, since that's the padding that comes with the Radian80, and it has been tested with the Radians.

Re: Another question about newborn and convertibles?
Newborns do not fit well in Britax. DFS is 13 pounds, almost 4 months old, and still is not tall enough for the bottom slots on DD's Marathon or Blvd.
He does, however, fit great in a True Fit!

Re: Another question about newborn and convertibles?
Thanks everyone! I'm so excited about the comfy seat being ok to use. It looks super "comfy", plus I could order an extra cover in a different material, and get the comfy seat with it. Good to know that the EFTA does works for a newborn also. That's what most likely will end up in my mom's car. I wasn't overly concerned about a carseat for the new baby in the grandparents' car, since I really don't leave my newborns at all, but it's still nice to know. (Plus then if we ever went anywhere together I could just move DS's marathon into their car since it is so easy to install, and just adjust the EFTA harness.) I did know that the Britax seats don't work well for tiny ones. DS was somewhere around 6 months when we first got his, and I remember wondering how they could rate it from 5# with the lowest slots so high. Thanks again for all your help!! =)
