Would this have been a werido thing to do? lol

Whilder looks like a little me (sometimes) and I keep wanting to call her Kaela I mean I thought about it briefly before she was born but I'm not all that fond of the name myself and I didn't feel like passing it on to her. Anyway, is it weird for a woman to name her child after her? I know it's okay for a man, so I guess it's one of those double standards

I don't think it's wierd, but personally I'm not into it. I like everyone to have their own first name, and middle names are family names (but that's our family). DH is from a family where the boys get named after their fathers, so we were breaking a huge tradition.

That is a good point, I also think every child should have their own name.

I'd name a boy after me (Cole or Nicholas, my mn is Nicole). But not a girl. I don't think it's weird, I just don't really like my mn and don't want a girl named after me. But a boy would be okay. No idea. I'm weird.

I don't think its *weird* ...you should name your child whatever you like.
In the jewish tradition you cannot (or you shouldn't) name your child after someone who is still living. I guess this is because ..you naming your child "after" someone, means you want them to take on some of the qualities of that person (what they did in life, their personality etc) . If you name them after someone who is still alive that means you don't know what that person will do with the rest of their life and they could becaome an idiot or an ax murderer or something and we wouldn't want our children taking on *those* qualities

I feel the same... I don't think there is anything wrong with it and I *have* always wondered why it was tradition to name boys after their fathers but not girls after their mothers. However, I still want my kids to all have their own names too.

I think it's weird to name kids the same exact name as the parents.
I did know one family where they had a boy and a girl, they named the kids the exact same names as the parents Sorry but to me that seems weird. It had to get confusing when they got older when the mailman came.
I like that every child gets their own name, middle names is fair game, I like to use family names if I know one I like.

Yah, I don't know why it's considered different to name a girl after their mom, but guys do it all the time.

My dad is named the same name as his father, and it's kinda a weird name "Hartmut" (traditional German name) which he doesn't like so goes by Hart.
What's weird is my friend's FIL has the same first name as his last name, so his name is Owen Owen
