I'm sure they'll reply soon. In the meantime please do not freak - if you are using the seat correctly your baby is perfectly safe, and that is a GOOD seat.

Re: most infant seats fail~news story

I recommend checking out the threads discussing this at car-seat.org. I KNOW Britax tests way above US standards, including side impact and rollover, and have not had similar results.

Keep using your seats properly- properly installed and used on baby.

Now breathe...

Not sure if convertibles are safer or not, but if you went with a Decathlon or Boulevard, you could use it from birth-4+ yrs. So you would get much more use out of a convertible.

Sadly, many infants don't acctually fit well in convertable car seats from birth. I'm a big advocate of using convertables from birth, but you have to be prepared to go out and buy an infant seat if the baby doesn't fit in the convertable (really it depends on the baby. some infants will fit fine from birth).

About the article, raceNzanesmom is totaly right. Breath and go read the discusions at car-safety.org. CR is NOT a reliable source for car seat info. Tosters, blenders, washing mashines, fine! Car seat? NO!

Re: most infant seats fail~news story

The point of the report was that they tested at higher speed crashes than normally tested at - 35 and 38mph instead of 30mph.

They also stated that only one seat flew off the base (at least what I saw on the news last night).
One of the seats wouldn't fit in 5 cars they tried putting it in.

They also said any seat is better than no seat.

And honestly - I don;t think we are their target audience. There are so many people out there who are clueless about this struff. Most on here research and really try to do the right thing and install them right from what I have seen. kwim? But there are people out there who just don't have half a clue and I think that's their target audience.

Re: most infant seats fail~news story

Hi Ladies, I was wondering who all saw the CR Report. There is a lot of info that consumer reports doesn't tell people, such as how they conduct their testing, who is installing these seats they are testing, why they don't test every seat, and how they come to the conclusions that they do. No ONE is able to replicate any of their results. I try to remind people that consumer reports is Wonderful if you are buying a Toaster or Washing machine. They are not a good resource to make your car seat selections from. Britax, Evenflo and The National Highway SAfety Traffic Administration are trying to get to the bottom of this new 38mph side impact "crash test" they conducted. All of the seats in question, pass or exceed U.S. standards for their infant seats. There is no reason to think your infant seat is now unsafe just because CR came out with this report. No one in the CPS (child passenger safety) world ever takes what they say worth a grain of salt.
If you're following manufacturer's instructions, you're giving your baby the safest ride possible with current technology. Make sure your infant car seat is less than six years old, has never been in a crash, is reclining at about a 45-degree angle in the car, is secured tightly in the back seat and the harness straps are adjusted correctly for your baby.
