Re: Please help beginning sewer with easy felt foods!

Those are great! For more felt food ideas / inspiration, you can search "felt food" on Flickr and tons of awesome stuff comes up.

A big hit I made my son for his kitchen was a little oven mitt. I just traced his hand and cut it out of felt. It was easy, and I am a newbie sewer. He loves it!

I also got him some cheap measuring cups and bamboo spoons at the dollar store.

Pancakes, Eggs, and sandwhich fixings, (tomato slice, cheese slice) any fruits would all be great additions. check out Etsy.com there are many great ideas you can get.
Circles are hard to do on a sewing machine, just practicing will help you get better. When i was learning to sew, we would sew paper a lot, draw some lines on paper and practice without any thread in the machine. Good luck! i am about to embark on making some Felt food for my little one also.

Re: Please help beginning sewer with easy felt foods!

I have a question, do you just use the felt like you can buy at JoAnns in 8.5x11 rectangles. I have the sewing skills of someone who can make food for my own child so I was just wondering if that is what you use. Thanks.

Re: Please help beginning sewer with easy felt foods!

At my fabric store they had the eco-felt squares which is recycled and great for our projects. I have read that wool felt is a better quality but for projects for my kiddo's kitchen I am very satisfied with the 28 cents recycled sheets. Yesterday, I made a pickle that the kids got excited and said "hooray mommy for the nice green bean!" LOL! I also made an ice cream cone that they seem to like. I think pp's ideas about an oven mitt is awesome and so is the basket. I am going to check out the recommended sites now. This is really fun but it gets frustrated trying to come up with ideas within my limited talents. Thanks for the encouragement ladies. The fact that I can even sew on the machine is an accomplishment. I mended 3 pairs of footed pajamas, hemmed my DH shorts, fixed the dog toy and my husbands torn work pants.

Re: Please help beginning sewer with easy felt foods!

I just go very slow when sewing in a circle and keep my focus on the where the needle needs to be in relation to the end of the fabric.
I will attempt to make these this weekend:

The most important thing is that your kiddos loved them!

I think everything looks awesome, especially it being your first time. My felt foods dont come out so great so I stick to crocheting them.

Nothing is better than the smiles you get in return! Oh and I have a 4, 2 and 1 year old too. =)
