lower back pain that wraps around to abdomen

For about 6 months now I have had lower back pain that wraps around to my front abdomen. It feels internal. I have been to about 5 doctors and lets just say the first few either wanted to give me pain meds without looking into it or they decided to run blood work. The last doctor that I saw about 2 weeks ago had me go from and ultrasound of my abdomen & kidneys. After a week of waiting around for results, I called her and she told me that I had a fatty liver. Nothing about what to do or what it meant..nothing. Now by this time I have not had my period in 2 months. So the next day I landed up going to the ER, because now the pain is getting worse and I am extremely tired. So I go and they run a CT scan of my abdomen & pelvis. They tell me that I have a 3 cm by 3 cm cyst on my right ovary and a small one on my left. They send me home with Naproxen and tell me to follow up with my gyn. So I go ahead and see my gyn today, she tells me that they do nothing for people with cysts that are under 8 cm. She was not at all concerned about my blood work, the fatty liver or the fact that I have not had my period in 2 months. Her response was the every woman gets cysts and that they do not cause pain. So if they are not what is causing the pain, that what the heck is. She now wants to go and put a camera through my belly button to see if I have endometriosis. I seriously think that she is just adding more and more tests on. My husband does not like this doctor at all, she really did not care to hear what I have to say.

I think I have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), 5 years ago before I got pregnant I had a cyst that caused a lot of pain, but they did nothing about it, it went away on its own. I have irregular periods (never missing it for 2 months though!), My LDL is high, my HDL is normal, my total cholesterol is high, I have no sex drive and I have random black thick hairs that pop up on my chin and other areas. I am a size 12, so I am not obese, and I do not drink, so I really have no idea where the fatty liver came from. I have also told various doctors that I feel like I am pre-diabetic, they have ran a diabetic panel and have found nothing...because they are not testing me for insulin resistance. I feel like I am running in circles. Is there anyone out there that has similar? Knows what I am talking about or knows who I should see or what to do? I am starting to feel like a crazy woman complaining of something that is not supose to hurt!! Thanks for any input you may have!

I don't know much about this, but I do have a very good friend who gets cysts all the time, and they HURT!!! So your doctor is crazy.

That doctor is a wackadoodle if she really believes that cyst don't hurt. I've had cyst and would rather give birth to a child each month than deal with the pain of cyst. I am serious too. Horrid, horrid pain was caused by my cyst.

Have you been to a chiropractor? Mine was actually able to adjust my pelvic area, back etc and not only did I stop having cyst but I got pregnant WITHOUT having to once again use fertility drugs

I remember somewhere hearing what causes woman to grow black facial hair. I believe it was hormonal usually but there was another disease too? I'm drawing a blank though?? I want to say it was linked to thyroid or adrenals?? Maybe google "black facial hair growth in woman"??

If you are into alternative/herbal/vitamins at all lemme know. I know what to do naturally for a fatty liver and high LDL

Thanks Mamas! I will look into the more holistic approach, as I hate treating things with prescription meds. Glad to know that the pain is real and I am not making it up! Any other Mama's out there with similar?

Re: lower back pain that wraps around to abdomen

You really need to see another doctor. I have PCOS and the pain I would get when the cysts would form were crazy. I am also diabetic in direct relation to the PCOS. I have on ocassion gone longer than 2 months without AF. It usually requires a round of meds to induce my AF when I have gone that long. Since our last child alot of the symptoms have all but gone. But I am only 3 months into AF since I was BF. We shall see how this turns out for me. I have substantially changed the way I eat which has helped keep me away from needing insulin but I am a pin cushion and test my blood sugar very often. Do you have access to a Blood Glucose monitor? If so you could do a journal of what you have eaten, how much of it you have eaten and what your sugar levels were right before eating, 1 hour and 2 hours after completing your meal. There is alot that goes along with PCOS. Get a second opinion if you can and let the doctor know exactly what you think and what is happening. My journaling my experiences with food and pain and missing cycles is what I went to the doctoe with. Good Luck to you! Feel free to pm me if you want to.

Re: lower back pain that wraps around to abdomen

You need to see another OB/GYN... and you need to seek treatment and OTHER tests to see if it is *only* the PCOS... because a lot of times, believe it or not, PCOS goes hand in hand with other auto-immune disorders including sugar related issues or Gluten Sensitivity/Celiac Disease.

Your Doc is definitely out of his/her skull if they think cysts or endometriosis do not hurt... I know for a fact that the cysts hurt (PCOS friends and my mom), and that endo hurts (self)....

If you need medicine for pain, that is nothing to be ashamed of.

Re: lower back pain that wraps around to abdomen

I'd probably find another doctor.

This is what I did for my basilar migraines. I strongly suspected my "episodes" were basilar migraines or a similar variant because they were textbook except I did not have pain. I had docs tell me I had everything under the sun because "basilar migraines are VERY rare".

I finally started telling them this: "I want you to CONSIDER this diagnosis in your testing and RULE IT OUT". It was fine by me if they ruled it out definitely, but everyone was dismissing it without further consideration. Finally, the last doc (now my specialist) said there are 3 other syndromes that it can be and that they can test for those and rule them out. If they rule out and are negative, I am left with a "diagnosis of exclusion", which is basilar migraines.

Sure enough, that is what they were. I just had to find a doc who was willing to put it in the differential diagnosis (aka, the list of possible syndromes that need to be ruled out) so that it could be included OR excluded.

So maybe say that. Tell your next doc what your symptoms are and that you want PCOS RULED OUT.

I'm a firm believer that we know what is going on with our body and need to find a way to communicate that to our healthcare providers.

Here you go, this (on PCOS) might help some.... and this on fatty liver...

I seriously think you need to be checked for auto immune issues, insulin issues and the Pcos... I'd go at it from the process of elimination and combined symptoms.

Do you have an IUD? If so, is it where it belongs? Hasn't migrated to someplace else? Have you tried Chiropractic?
