I'm pretty new to babywearing, but I'm looking for a comfortable way to wear my 4mo in a front carry, and a back carry when she's a little older. All of the names and sizes are dizzying. Can anyone give me a quick primer? I also need something reasonably priced...under $50 would be great. Thanks!

Re: wrap question?
FOr under $50 used your best bet would be an ellaroo wrap or a gypsy mama gauze. As far as sizing goes I am an 18/20 and wear a large ellaroo or a 5.5yrd Gypsy mama.
Most can get away w/a med or 5yrd. HTH,Karen

The mei tai (may tie) would be a good option too - it has an easier lerning curve than wraps.

Re: wrap question?
Check out Babyhawk.com. Her MTs start at $65 but you get to custom design it yourself. They are super cool and worth the money IMO. You could also try to find a used one (any type of carrier) on thebabywearer.com for alot cheaper than a brand new one if you just want to try one out. Does the city you live in have a NINO chapter? Also, I am around your size and I also wear a 5 to 5.5 Gypsy Mama and Ellaroo wrap because I like to have some slack to play around with. Moby is also a good beginer wrap and goes for around $30-$35 (one size). I started wrapping with a 5.5 yard piece of jersy knit fabric from the fabric store, so that could be another option if you could find a enough fabric on the sale table!

Re: wrap question?
Barking up my ally!!! TBW is a great place to go too!! Lots of info there!!
Stay away from any stretch that has lycra in it or is a blend- they won't last you through bigger kids! wovens are exactly that woven fabric ellaroos are plain cotton- unless they have something else I am not aware of! pretty much you have wovens- didys, storch, etc cottons- ellaroos- some gypsy mamas, etc stretches, GM baby bali stretch, Moby, Raya, Hug a Bub, etc gauzes- pretty much will say it is a gauze and some other misc stufff like solarveil- sunblocking fab. I fyou want to try it out but don't want to spend the money go get 5 yards of fabric off the dollar table at walmart and trip the width to 30 inches. I usggest getting a regular cotton. E-mail me and I will send you instruction on how to tie the thing on!! lol!! great way to try wrapping- only cost 5 bucks!!! MT (mei-tais pn MAY-TIE) are nice too but better suited for children over 6 months- this is a preference- not as versatile as wraps but my second pick in babywearing! Babies beyond borders selld my fav our of all the ones our there I have tried thus far! A little harder to find the right fit with a MT though- usually take several different ones to find that one that is most comfy. any other ??? just ask away!!...Minda
