Re: WOO HOO!!! Wool sweater score!

Longies from sleeves tute here
ETA that I don't always felt my sweaters - I prefer not to but if they are thin I'll either felt them or double layer them.

Totally, I just found the tute for others to follow. I almost forgot about doing that today when I was planning and trying to make the most of my sweaters. Talk about a light bulb moment!!

I hadn't heard of the vineger soak. I had done the hair conditioner before. Thanks for the tip!

Re: WOO HOO!!! Wool sweater score!

k, here's the wool/fleece combo. They are damp yet because I washed/lanolized them last night. They are much softer this morning - this is the one that was "lambswool" - not merino so they were slightly scratchy.

Here's the soaker/pj pants with two layers of merino on the "soaker" part and the sleeves for legs. I just discovered two holes in the wool (abotu penny sized) this morning I'll have to patch them up somehow - anyone have ideas on that? These are so stinkin' cute on and fit perfectly with plenty of room to grow. I made the legs crazy long

I would cut a contrasting piece of wool fabric into cute shapes (stars, moons, etc) and patch with them.

Great job! I wish my local thrift stores would put out their wool already.

Thanks I'm a little afraid these may fall apart quickly or something. I found another hole in one of the legs. I just stitched them up loosely with black thread but may some moons or a little gray mouse or something would be cute.

Did you put these through the washing machine before you sewed them together? I started putting my sweaters in zippered pillowcases to wash and that ended the problems with the holes. Plus it keeps all the wool gunk from clogging up your washing machine...

Now why didn't I think of that? I'm always cleaning wool gunk from my washer!

To the OP...great score! I love Value Village! They sell wool sweaters (extra fine merino/cashmere/lambswool...you name it) for $6 and under. They had a 50% off sale I got a TON of sweaters for $30!

Nope, I handwashed in a little Dawn and then rinsed and soaked overnight in ENI Butt Naked wool wash. I didn't felt anything this time around although the gray sweater was slighttly felted when I bought it.
