afraid of flats & prefolds!

Okay ladies, help me overcome my flat fears, lol! I saw that several people recommended flats with a cover as the trimmest diaper they have... so I want to give it a try. However: 1) I'm afraid of pinning! 2) Are they absorbant enough? How often do you have to change them, especially in comparison to other CDs? 3) What are the pros & cons of flats vs. prefolds? 4) Do flats and/or prefolds work for todders and active babies?

Feel free to post helpful links. I tried to search for info on the forums here but am having a hard time sorting through the posts and finding useful info. Thanks for your patience with all my questions!

1st of all pinning is not as scary as it sounds. They are asorbant enough, if you need extra asorbancy you can add adoubler. I change my DD all the time. Every hour or two. Flats dry super fast, especially if you line dry. PF are great also. My DD is 9 mos. old and she is almost walking and on the move all the time. Flats and pf's work great on my DD.

pinning isn't as hard as it looks...but if it really scares you maybe you could try a snappi they are very easy to use

Re: afraid of flats & prefolds!

i used infant prefolds on z until she outgrew them, then went to flats. U can snappi them, so if it's the pinning that's stopping u, don't worry about that! i can't get the fit i like with a snappi, so i pin.flats r second to none in the laundry department, and super trim, too! u can also fold them up in a wrap style cover. very versatile and one size!

disclaimer: i did not diaper my baby so tightly that she had a wedgie. she just shifted her body a little when i snapped the pic.

Flats ROCK!!! PF's are awsome too. If I use a flat I use a preemie PF as a doubler and we can go 2 hours at least between changing. I do change more often because we go coverless 90% of the time Flats are by far the trimmest diapers in my stash!

See how TRIM!

And in a pre-flat, its one layer like a flat, but the same size as a PF

I don't mind pf at all but lately I'm a fitted girl. You can snappi flats just like you can pf so don't let pins scare you. I have tried pins quite a few times and I just don't think they are for me. Maybe if I'd started earlier when ds was littler and wasn't so impatient during changes I'd be a pro and quick.

I went to fitteds because we like to go coverless and snappis are dangerous uncovered!

Don't be afraid of flats and prefolds..

I was afraid of them and because of that I spent a ton of money on pockets. My baby was sensitive to the suede lining and I ended up going to prefolds and wraps.

I wish I had tried them first. I could've saved myself the money and aggrevation.

Now i'm learning how to make my own prefold fitted.

I was terrified of prefolds with my first, and now I love them with my second! I have never touched a diaper pin in my life...snappis are great

Wow! Those pics are so cute! I'm also afraid of prefolds and flats, but you fold them great!

Soooo... what exactly is a prefold fitted? Is that like a BSRB? And WHY would you use a prefold fitted over a prefold or a flat?

For that matter, why use a flat instead of a prefold or vice versa?
