I usually just empty a little out so it doesn't over-inflate and then freeze it right side up until solid. When you defrost, it can be a little weird in texture just from the fat not being completely blended. Shake it up and my family never complained.

I just put the whole thing in the freezer as is and then take it out with a few days to defrost. Shake well before first use and you're good to go! Oh, and don't worry when it looks yellow coming out of the freezer. It goes back to white and is just fine when it defrosts
