VBAC Homebirth?

I had my first son in the hospital but natural. My second son was breech and delivered by c-section as no docs in this town will deliver breech vaginally. I'd like to have a homebirth with #3. Can you do a VBAC homebirth? Do any midwives support that?

I'll be having a HVBAC in November! It is absolutely possible. You shouldn't really have to much trouble finding a midwife to work with you.

I hope to HBAC when we get pregnant again. All the midwives here do VBACS! Good luck!

In some states it's hard to find a CNM to do it (not because they don't want to but they seem to be more restricted by laws against these things), but you can almost always find a homebirth CPM/LM. Plenty of people have HBAC, many of them on this board.

Re: VBAC Homebirth?

Some will, some won't... it depends on the state you're in, the laws, and the number of 'underground' midwives available if the law is against you.

It's not included in a midwive's malpractice to do a HBAC, and therefore if something were to go wrong they have no protection. Therefore they must be VERY comfortable with your particular situation before entering those waters...

Look around and the midwives will tell you whether you're a good candidate or not based on your pregnancy, cessarean, repair, risks, etc...

That said - MANY people HBAC and VBAC, and in most situations it's the safer alternative to a repeat cessarean. Good luck!

Re: VBAC Homebirth?

exactly what Erin said. Every midwife here in Arizona I've talked to about a VBA2C has told me it is out of their scope of practice and the law for them to do HVBAC. One told me to befriend some midwives because that is the most likely way I would get a HVBAC since they would have to break the law to do it for me.

TheConners3 - LOOK HARDER. There ARE underground midwives willing to uphold real birth....you just have to look...

I'm having a HBAC any day now... I didn't have any problems finding a CNM to support my decision. Good luck!
