Re: Placenta Encapsulation
My husband did the WHOLE thing for me, thank goodness, because I couldn't stand the smell! The whole process seemed pretty revolting, and I had to plug my nose when I took the pills because I could still smell them, LOL! That being said, I'm SO GLAD we did it, and would totally do it (err, have my DH do it!) again next time

Re: Placenta Encapsulation
I'm really interested in this. I had severe ppd/anxiety after DS was born and would do just about anything to prevent that from happening again. I don't think I could do it myself, but I'm sure there are lots of options for having it done here.
Question for those of you who've done it... what kind of reaction do you get from people? Or do you just not mention it, to avoid any negative reactions? I've mentioned it to my mom and DH before, kind of in passing. DH had little to no response...my mom thinks it's nasty, so I sort of feel like if I have it done I just won't say anything to anyone besides DH. IDK?

Re: Placenta Encapsulation
I don't really tell people. DH has blabbed it to one of his friends (joking about it) and I gave him a talkin' to afterwards, just because unless people have an inkling of understanding already or they WANT to know, they're disgusted and rude about it. So I just want to avoid that. It's none of their business anyway.

Re: Placenta Encapsulation
I tell some people, mainly because I'm a doula and have a lot of friends in the natural birth community, so they are supportive. It doesn't really bother me if people are grossed out, I like to educate.

Re: Placenta Encapsulation
I love to educate, too...but I can only deal with so much negativity towards my decisions. I get enough of that about my births (UC's). LOL

Re: Placenta Encapsulation
One more question for those who have done this. How big of a steamer/pot do you need? I have a stock pot that's about 9.25" wide and 4.5" high. I'm thinking about this steamer to put in it (I have one similar here at home, but it has a center post, so it wouldn't work. Do you think this is big enough? I just seem to remember that the placenta from DD's birth was so big!
My husband and doula are going to tag-team and do this while I'm still at the hospital, so it will be ready for me when I come home. They're awesome.

Re: Placenta Encapsulation
Thanks for posting this. My doula is going through her training now and is hoping to be certified before the birth od my dd. She said she needs someone to help her with her certification and asked if I would be interrested. The benifits are worth it in my opinion and we will do this if we can.
