Re: Did you have some kind of "feeling" before labor?

DS was born at 37 wks. I had a few clues that it was coming:
- Had BH contrax since about 20 wks but starting at around 32 wks, got "menstrual cramp" contrax instead (felt like my period was coming)
- I was convinced that I wouldn't make it to my due date (Feb 16). Feb 1 was in my head as a potential D day.... and I wasn't far off in the end.
- Lost mucus plug at 34 wks - huge glob (literally a handful)
- Baby dropped around the same time
- 36 wk checkup turned up 3 cm dilated, 80% effaced, baby at -1 station
- The 3 nights before DS was born, I would wake up in the middle of the night with the menstrual cramp contrax. Each time I wondered if this was it and tried to time them, but I couldn't clearly tell when the contrax started or ended - I was just aware of the peak really.
- 2 days before the birth, I woke up in a panic that the baby would come before my mom arrived from across the country. I went crazy grocery shopping and making casseroles to stock the freezer with. My "nesting" - DH recognized it for what it was and told me that night that he thought I'd go within the next few days.
- The day before the birth, I woke up with a horrendous backache, right over my tailbone (turns out DS was posterior). I called my mom to complain and she predicted that I'd go within a day or two.
- That night, I woke with the menstrual cramp contrax again, tossed and turned for about an hour trying to time them... then pop! Water broke. 18 hours later, DS was born.

I had no inclination that he was coming until 13 hours before DS was born.

Re: Did you have some kind of "feeling" before labor?

I've only gone into labor once on my own, but no, no feeling then. In fact, I think I spent half the evening in tears thinking I was never going to go into labor - I had been walking a LOT, eating pineapple, sex, etc. - and as of the appointment a day and a half earlier I was barely a finger tip dilated and less than 50% effaced. It was July, the hottest we'd had since I moved to Ohio, I had PUPPS EVERYWHERE and itched so bad - I was miserable. I woke up at 230 AM with this feeling that I need to get in the bathroom NOW (not that I had to pee, just that I needed to get up and move) and as I sat down on the toilet my water broke...
