The Politics of Breastfeeding: When Breasts Are Bad for Business
isbn 190517716X

IMHO; This one should be required reading for anyone going through health or home ec classes in HS... and in the coursework people do with lamaze or other birthing classes.

Re: Submit your Breastfeeding Book Reviews!

The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers is the only reason we're nursing right now. It had the answers to get her back on the breast when she developed bottle preference.

The Breastfeeding Mother's Guide to Making More Milk. This book isn't just about making more milk - it also covers what to do if you are worried that you won't make enough, how to tell if your baby is getting enough, and what to do if people who may not be the most BFing friendly try to say you're not making enough. It didn't have anything I hadn't heard for my current situation (been trying to fix my low supply for months) but it did have a bunch of things I will be trying to attempt to avoid this situation next time. I recommend this book to ANYONE who suffers from low supply or is worried they will.

I wish so much that I had had it before I had the baby (low supply runs in my fam and I was already worried) that I bought a copy for my midwife's lending library too.

I have a low milk supply and really helped me to cope with the emotional and physical pain that stemmed from it. It also makes determining WHY you have a low milk supply a little easier, so that you can figure out what to do to help increase your supply. It has tons of info on herbs and meds that are galactogues and strategies to manually increase milk supply.
I loved this one too... especially when you have a low supply, its good not to read books that are ONLY about EBF... sometimes you just can't and it's better for your milk supply and yourself if you dont stress

This book helped me out soooo much. It covers everything you could possibly think of. I was completely clueless on the whole breastfeeding process. I learned everything I need to know from this one book. Everytime I ever had a problem the book always had an answer.

Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Breastfeeding.

If you were not convinced you wanted to breastfeed before you read the book- you will be afterwards. (I also read her guide to childbirth and I'm in love with her!!)

Ditto! I read it twice while pregnant, and then bought it (I usually just go to the library for books I want to read) knowing I would refer to it often. I must have read certain sections 20 more times during the first month after my baby was born. I've had great success with BF so far (DD is 5 weeks) and I think a huge reason for that was being informed beforehand of normal BF patterns & expecting it to be challenging at the beginning. There is so much bad advice out there (and no shortage of people willing to give it) and what I learned from this book helped me keep my head on straight and make good decisions. WONDERFUL book, very encouraging and realistic, great information on every page!
